The Irish Environmental Protection Agency has recently agreed to fund in
excess of ¬1.6 million for a major integrated project on Irish
biodiversity titled <b>Biodiversity and environmental change: an
integrated study encompassing a range of scales, taxa and habitats
</b>("<b>BIOCHANGE</b>"). This project, which will run
for 42 months, will involve multi-disciplinary research across nine Irish
research institutions working in close collaboration and will employ 4
post-docs, 8 PhD students and 2 Research Assistants.<br>

<i>Position available:<br>
</i><b>Predicting plant invasion - which taxa are the future invasive
aliens?</b> (led by Dr J.C. Stout, TCD; collaborators: Dr M. Jebb,
National Botanic Gardens, Dr J Caffrey, Central Fisheries Board, Dr M.
Mulholland, TCD, Prof B. Osborne, UCD)<br>
A 15 month position is available in the Department of Botany, Trinity
College Dublin. The successful applicant will undertake a desk-based
project to collate biological information on non-native terrestrial and
aquatic plant species in Ireland. A database will be constructed and will
be used to try to identify potential future environmentally and
economically damaging non-native species, their distribution under future
climate change scenarios, and the impact they may have on native
biodiversity. <br>

Successful candidate will: <br>

Possess a PhD in plant biology, invasive alien species, climate change or
similar<br>

Demonstrate ability to publish research in international peer review
journals<br>
·
Preferably have experience in constructing a data-base or ecological
modelling<br>
<br>
The project is due to start in April 2006.<br>
