We are pleased to announce the start of the external review of the for the <strong>first order draft of the chapters of the IPBES thematic assessment of invasive alien species and their control </strong>(<a href="https://naturalsciences.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b3ef4ce3fa088f81f6e61b4cc&id=747ceeadef&e=c4503768d2" style="color:rgb(0,124,137);font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">IPBES invasive alien species assessment</a>).<br>
<br>
The period for this first external review of the draft chapters runs from the <strong>31<sup>st</sup> August until the 18<sup>th</sup> October 2020.</strong><br>
<br>
<br>
The aim of this review is to increase the policy relevance of the assessment by engaging governments and stakeholders early in the process of defining the policy questions that this assessment will address.<br>
<br>
This assessment will assess the current status and trends of invasive alien species, their impacts, their drivers, their management, and options for policy to deal with the challenges they pose. The assessment takes into account various knowledge and value systems including local and indigenous knowledge. The assessment will be solution-oriented and will provide policymakers with flexible and pragmatic response options, including strategies for prevention and adaptive management of invasive alien species.<br>

One of the most important phases in the IPBES assessment process is the external review by interested and qualified experts, including scientists, decision makers, practitioners, and other knowledge holders. The widest possible participation and the highest diversity amongst experts in this external review is vital to ensure the scientific quality and policy relevance of this assessment.<br>
<br>
To <strong>participate as an expert reviewer</strong> for the review of these draft chapters, please follow these 3 steps:</p>
<ol>
<li style="text-align:justify">Make sure you are <a href="https://naturalsciences.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b3ef4ce3fa088f81f6e61b4cc&id=237224562c&e=c4503768d2" style="color:rgb(0,124,137);font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">registered on the IPBES website</a>;</li>
<li style="text-align:justify">Once you are registered and logged in, <a href="https://naturalsciences.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b3ef4ce3fa088f81f6e61b4cc&id=5fc47812bd&e=c4503768d2" style="color:rgb(0,124,137);font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">apply to become an IPBES external reviewer</a> for this assessment;</li>
<li>Then, you will receive an email providing confidential access to the draft chapters and the template for submitting your comments. </li>
