<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_quote" style="font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:11px"><div dir="ltr"><div>Dear colleagues,<br></div><div><br></div><div>The Belgian Biodiversity Platform is organising an<b> <a href="http://www.biodiversity.be/ipbes" rel="noreferrer">Information Session</a> on the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (<a href="http://www.ipbes.net/" rel="noreferrer">IPBES</a>).</b></div>
<div>It will take place on <b>May, 16 2014 at BELSPO, Brussels; from 9 am to 1 pm.</b></div><div><p style="border:0px;padding:0px;margin:10px 0px;font-family:OpenSansRegular,Arial,sans-serif"><font color="#000000">The aim of this Information Session is to inform you (scientists/ other relevant stakeholders) on the history, objectives, functions, governance and work programme of IPBES, the wider policy landscape in which it has to find its place (i.e. relevant Conventions), and the regional support approaches to IPBES.</font></p>
<p style="border:0px;padding:0px;margin:10px 0px;font-family:OpenSansRegular,Arial,sans-serif"><font color="#000000">The Information Session <b>will help you to better evaluate your </b><span style="border:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px"><b>potential contribution</b> to the implementation of the 2014-2018 IPBES Work Programme</span>, and initiate some discussions on <span style="border:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px">IPBES’ role, functioning and challenges </span>(e.g.: feasibility of its workplan, stakeholder involvement, current and future challenges etc.). </font></p>
<p style="border:0px;padding:0px;margin:10px 0px;font-family:OpenSansRegular,Arial,sans-serif"><font color="#000000">Indeed, with Belgium as Member State, IPBES will likely impact on Belgian scientists and policy makers involved in the field of biodiversity and ecosystem services, and vice versa. The Belgian community<b> </b>(knowledge holders, policy makers from various fields, and stakeholders) <b>will be invited to contribute to the assessments</b>, capacity building activities, and development of policy tools and methodologies foreseen in IPBES work programme. </font></p>
<p style="border:0px;padding:0px;margin:10px 0px;font-family:OpenSansRegular,Arial,sans-serif"><b><font color="#000000">Please note that the IPBES Chair has just launched a new call to nominate experts by June 8, 2014. Information/ Invitation will be sent to you shortly.</font></b></p>
