It's available for free from: https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/e/9780429016295 Best, Ecosystem Services and Poverty Alleviation Trade-offs and Governance Edited By Kate Schreckenberg, Georgina Mace, Mahesh Poudyal Understanding how to sustain the services that ecosystems provide in support of human wellbeing is an active and growing research area. This book provides a state-of-the-art review of current thinking on the links between ecosystem services and poverty alleviation. In part it showcases the key findings of the Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA) programme, which has funded over 120 research projects in more than 50 countries since 2010. ESPA's goal is to ensure that ecosystems are being sustainably managed in a way that contributes to poverty alleviation as well as to inclusive and sustainable growth. As governments across the world map how they will achieve the 17 ambitious Sustainable Development Goals, most of which have poverty alleviation, wellbeing and sustainable environmental management at their heart, ESPA's findings have never been more timely and relevant. The book synthesises the headline messages and compelling evidence to address the questions at the heart of ecosystems and wellbeing research. The authors, all leading specialists, address the evolving framings and contexts for the work, review the impacts of ongoing drivers of change, present new ways to achieve sustainable wellbeing, equity, diversity, and resilience, and evaluate the potential contributions from conservation projects, payment schemes, and novel governance approaches across scales from local to national and international. The cross-cutting, thematic chapters challenge conventional wisdom in some areas, and validate new methods and approaches for sustainable development in others. The book will provide a rich and important reference source for advanced students, researchers and policy-makers in ecology, environmental studies, ecological economics and sustainable development. -- Recent publications * Zafra-Calvo et al. Ventocilla) Date: Tue, 22 May 2018 21:38:30 +0200 Subject: [ES] Report of the May 15th Belgian IPBES Workshop on the Global Assessment. Message-ID: Dear colleagues, Happy International Biodiversity Day! ? and thank you to those that could participate last May 15th at the Belgian IPBES Workshop on the Global Assessment. Although it was only the forth meeting of this type, it was a good opportunity to colleagues to discuss and learn a bit more about IPBES. Attached to this email you will find: - The Powerpoint presentation with the slides used - The meeting record (minutes) - The excel form to share your comments on the different chapters of the Global Assessment Next Steps: In order to submit your comments on the IPBES Global Assessment, and help us shape the Belgian position, please keep in mind the following deadlines: June 20th: For the individual chapters June 30th: For the Summary for Policy Makers (SPM) Early submission of comments is encouraged, so that we can also consider these for two related workshops in the first week of June 2018. If you have not done so already, to get access to the drafts ? please follow these steps: 1. Register as user of the IPBES website (www.ipbes.net/user/register?destination=registration_global_sod ) 2. Apply to become an IPBES external reviewer for individual chapters of the global assessment or for the summary for policymakers at https://www.ipbes.net/registration-second-external-review-global-assessment (this will only work when logged in first as IPBES website user). 3. Once registered, you will immediately receive an email providing confidential access to the draft chapters or SPM and will be requested to submit your comments to j.ventocilla at biodiversity.be using a comments template that is available on the same webpage, and attached to this email. Criteria for comments: ? Provide comments in English ? Comment on substantial aspects of the draft assessment and SPM (i.e. no editorial comments), as well as on the overall balance ? Each reviewer/government should ideally submit one template per assessment (compiling comments across several or all chapters + comments on the SPM) ? Be constructive ? ideally explaining a way forward. Where relevant, comments should be underpinned by reference to scientific publications ? Formatting among chapters and across assessments will also be corrected and harmonized in the final version ? Graphics editors will be used for the final tables and figures ? Text should not be policy prescriptive ? Drafts (Chapters & Summary for Policy Makers) are confidential, do not share, cite or circulate. Submit your comments by using the excel form and sending it to j.ventocilla at biodiversity.be who will subsequently compile all comments and use them to draft the official (Belgian) government response. The draft Government response will then be validated by the Steering Group Nature, Steering Group Biodiversity, extended with BBPf Steering Committee. Thereafter, the government response will be submitted by the IPBES deadlines (29 June for the Chapters; 9 July for the Summary for Policy makers) Experts can also submit their review template individually to hien.ngo at ipbes.net by 29 June (individual chapters) or 9 July (SPM). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, JL -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
