In October 2017, the Belmont Forum and BiodivERsA launched the BiodivScen joint call on ?Scenarios of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services? with the support of the European Commission. Supported by 26 national/regional funding organisations from 23 countries, this international call covered the two following themes: * Development and application of scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services across spatial scales of relevance to multiple types of decisions; * Consideration of multiple dimensions of biodiversity and ecosystem services in biodiversity scenarios. In total, 143 pre-proposals were received. Following an eligibility check, 135 full proposals were finally received and evaluated by an independent Panel of Experts who ranked the projects. According to this ranking, 21 top research projects have been shortlisted and proposed for funding (among which 4 are presently on a waiting list), representing a total funding amount of over 28 Mio ? (including funding from European Commission). The 21 shortlisted projects are academically excellent projects, mobilizing a wide range of disciplines, engaging many relevant stakeholders, and addressing various pressing scientific and societal issues. The final list of funded projects will be definitely known upon national decisions by BiodivScen partners, in October at the latest (i.e., at this stage, the list presented below is a list of projects proposed for funding rather than funded for sure). The shortlisted projects, with countries involved -coordinators being indicated in bold- are the following: Main list: ACCES - De-icing of Arctic Coasts: Critical or new opportunities for marine biodiversity and Ecosystem Services? (NO, CA, DK, PL, US). AlienScenarios - Developing and applying scenarios of biological invasions for the 21st century (AT, CA, DE, ES, FR). This call will include two actions, supporting two different types of research projects: * Action A will support collaborative research projects (1), gathering different research teams and generating new primary data; * Action B will support research synthesis projects (2), gathering individuals forming a working group who perform research and answer research questions using existing data sets. These research projects won?t collect or produce new primary data, the core activity of these projects being synthesizing and/or analyzing existing data (synthesizing concepts and ideas is also eligible). Note that these projects differ from systematic reviews or knowledge synthesis which are based on a synthesis of publications and reports. The call is planned to be launched in early October 2018, with the mandatory submission of pre-proposals in November 2018 [Indicative schedule]. Scientific teams will be invited to form transnational research consortia with * teams from minimum 3 countries participating in the call for Action A (a particular rule may apply for ORs/OCTs if the corresponding agencies confirm their participation), * group members from minimum 5 countries participating in the call for Action B (a particular rule may apply for ORs/OCTs if the corresponding agencies confirm their participation). Proposals will have to be exclusively written in English. The research proposals will be evaluated across criteria of scientific excellence and policy /societal relevance/stakeholder engagement (for more information on stakeholder engagement in funded projects, please check the BiodivERsA Stakeholder Engagement Handbook). It is also expected that the international added value of the projects will be clearly demonstrated. At this stage, the following countries have expressed a preliminary interest to participate to the call (Y=Yes ; N=No). !!
