The Intergovernmental science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem
Services (IPBES), has been established to strengthen the science-policy
interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services. The Platform's 124
member states are committed to building IPBES as the leading
intergovernmental body for assessing the planet's biodiversity, its
essential ecosystem services, and options to improve the conservation and
sustainable use of biodiversity. IPBES provides policy-relevant but not
policy-prescriptive information. IPBES e-news provides information to all
interested stakeholders on progress in the implementation of the first

the fourth session of the IPBES Plenary (IPBES-4) were issued last week,
together with a draft agenda

IPBES-4 will hosted by the Government of Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia, 22-28 February 2016. IPBES-4 will, in particular, be invited to
consider the two first assessment full reports of IPBES (pollination and
scenarios) for adoption, and their respective summary for policymakers, for

 The second order draft of the full report and a first order draft of the

        Strong interest in IPBES young fellows programme
 684 applications were received in response to the call for the IPBES Young
Fellows Programme. 32 fellows will participate as contributing authors in
the regional assessments and the assessment on land degradation and
restoration, thus building capacity and creating a pool of young competent
professionals able to carry forward the IPBES agenda. Selection is on-going
and fellows will be notified in the next few weeks. Click here

        Five new IPBES assessments initiated
 Over 500 experts have now been selected to perform the four regional
assessments (Africa, Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe and Central Asia) on
biodiversity and ecosystem services, and the land degradation and
restoration assessment from 2015 to 2017. Technical Support Units are being
established and management committees taking place. First authors meetings
will occur from July to September 2015 according to this schedule

        Proceedings on indigenous and local knowledge workshop on
pollination published
 The proceedings

from
the IPBES Global Dialogue Workshop on indigenous and local knowledge about
pollination and pollinators associated with food production are now out.
They represent a contribution to the IPBES pollination assessment.
