Dear colleagues,

This is the last call for registration to the Information
Session<http://www.biodiversity.be/ipbes/>on the Intergovernmental
Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and
Ecosystem Services (IPBES <http://www.ipbes.net>) organised by the Belgian
Biodiversity Platform. The session will take place on May, 16 2014 at
BELSPO<http://www.BELSPO.be>from 9 am to 1 pm, followed by a lunch
offered by the Platform. To access
BELSPO building, see the practical information attached. Participation to
the event is free of charge, but *registration by May 10 is mandatory.*

We also organise the *web streaming* of the information session: go to
http://www.biodiversity.be/ipbes/streaming from 9 am on May 16 and follow
the event online! You will get the chance to interact with the
speakers via *Twitter
#ipbesinfo*: ask your questions using this hashtag and you'll receive your
answers live.

The aim of this Information Session is to inform you (scientists/ other
relevant stakeholders) on the history, objectives, functions, governance
and work programme of IPBES, the wider policy landscape in which it has to
find its place (i.e. relevant Conventions), and the regional support
approaches to IPBES. The Information Session will help you to better
evaluate your potential contribution to the implementation of the 2014-2018
IPBES Work Programme, and initiate some discussions on IPBESí role,
functioning and challenges (e.g.: feasibility of its workplan, stakeholder
involvement, current and future challenges etc.). Indeed, with Belgium as
Member State, IPBES will likely impact on Belgian scientists and policy
makers involved in the field of biodiversity and ecosystem services, and
vice versa. The Belgian community (knowledge holders, policy makers from
various fields, and stakeholders) will be invited to contribute to the
assessments, capacity building activities, and development of policy tools
and methodologies foreseen in IPBES work programme.
