[ECA] Save-the-date for the 6th Pan-European Stakeholder Consultation (31/08-2/09/2020, Belarus)

Dear Ruslan and dear colleagues,
probably many of you also  just got the notification from the CBD
Secretariat that SBSTTA 24 and SBI 3 have been rescheduled to take place
in Ottawa/Canada from 25-30th of August (SBSTTA 24) and 1-6th of
September 2020 (SBI 3). These new dates clearly collide with our idea to
have PESC 6 in Belarus from 31st of August to 2nd of September and for
many participants (including myself) this overlap will create problems
as the CBD meetings are "higher ranking" than a PESC. Therefore, we
should think about also rescheduling the PESC 6 meeting if possible.
Honestly, given the current  Corona pandemic situation, I personally
doubt that any of these global meetings can actually be held at the
dates proposed now, even if the situation in Europe might have improved
until then. As to my understanding nobody can predict how the situation
will be in August in parts of the world that are still not so badly hit
so far and I don't see that travel restriction will be lifted globally
so quickly, which would be needed to allow global participation in UN
meetings.
So, let's keep as flexible as possible and see how the situation will
evolve. We in Germany in the moment are not allowed to meet anyone but
family living in the same household, every other face-to-face social
contact is forbidden. Travelling to a UN meeting in the moment seems
very far away.

Stay healthy, all the best
Axel
