Dear GBIF data publisher,

Late last year, we circulated a document for community input on possible 
options for GBIF to standardise the licensing of data within the GBIF 
network.  We are grateful to all of those who responded.  Since this is 
a critical issue for so many of our Participants data publishers, and an 
essential area in which GBIF needs to provide appropriate leadership, we 
are now issuing a further consultation to seek comments on a proposal 
for how we should now proceed.  Full information, and a form for use 
when providing responses, can be found at the following link:

I urge you all to review the consultation document and to provide your 
input to licensing at gbif.org by 14 June 2014. Please circulate this 
message to any others who may be interested.

We are taking this opportunity also to try to standardise our approach 
to community consultation.  A new tab has been added to the GBIF portal, 
http://www.gbif.org/newsroom/consultations.  This will be used when we 
issue documents like this for community response.  We will also update 
this page with links to responses received and to final summary 
reports.  We trust that this will increase understanding and 
transparency around such activities and will make it easier for the 
whole community to follow the development of GBIF's plans.
